MARIO ARANA Architectural DESIGNER

Project Program:
Corrugated cardboard made from a natural renewable resource has the best environmental record in packaging and display. The intention of the project was to come up with a cardboard chair design that can sustain a person’s weight while being aesthetically pleasing.
Objective:
The objective was to design a chair that is strong enough and comfortable enough for the user to be able to read book while relaxing on a cardboard chair. Also, the chair had to be able to assemble and dissemble in less than 5 minutes.
Concept:
By crisscrossing and layering the cardboard, it made the chair more durable to handle around 160 pounds. Investigating different sitting positions and ergonomics of the human body, it provided a physical dimension and scale of the shape of the chair.
